Several hundred years ago, there was a genie named Mambang Sari was sitting in Langkawi. Every day Mambang Sari and her followers to go and play in a place known as Telok Ayer Pasir. One day, when they are having fun on the island, a genie named Mat Teja sees them. Mat Teja fall in love when look at Mambang Sari. Mambang Sari did not know that Mat Teja has fallen in love with her. After playing around in the sand of  Telok Ayer Pasir, Mambang Sari and her followers went swimming in Telok Lawak.Every time when Mat Teja follows her from a far view, he still not dares to express his love and feeling towards Mambang Sari. Mat Teja through at one place called Diang. The place is inhabited by an old man named Tuk Diang. One day, when Mat Teja is passed, Tuk Diang asks him where he wants to go. Mat Teja said he wanted to follow Mambang Sari because he has fallen in love with her but he did not dare to tell her. Tuk Diang gives one solution to Mat Teja and he listen carefully because he really wants Mambang Sari. Take a tube of bamboo, traveling on the sea shore at low tide, then defected mermaid tears in a place called Telok Kahar. When he seen Mambang Sari, then wash your face with the mermaid tears, said Tuk Diang. Mat Teja follow all the tips that have been given by Tuk Diang. 

When the time is receding at Telok Kahar, he saw a mermaid was sitting on a rock and fall a tears flowing down at her face because the tide had left her and she could not go back to the sea. When Mat Teja saw a mermaid sitting on a rock, he continued to collect the tears of the mermaid. Without wasting a time, Mat Teja sweeping his neck and face with the mermaid tears.

Then, Mambang Sari can see the appearance of Mat Teja directly and suddenly Mambang Sari fallen in love with Mat Teja. On the next day, they sat courtship but they not sit at the same local area. Sometimes they see on the ground and sometimes they met at the sea. Later, they decide to getting married. They live together with very happy. Soon, Mambang Sari was pregnant and came back to a place called Maiden or Dayang Beranak to produce her birth as soon as possible. Seven days after birth, her son died causes of mysterious disease. Mambang Sari buries her child in a lake and returned to her place like heaven. Before she leaving the lake, she said that, Mambang Sari was cursed the water as a cure to get a child to those who are unable to conceive or cannot produce a child. Thus, the lake is known as Lake of the Pregnant Maiden or Dayang Bunting Island.
